About the Trust

The Ewan Sampson Trust was set up in 1998 in the memory of Ewan Sampson. The Ewan Sampson Scholarship Trust aims at making young Bermudian students like Ewan more ware of the Information Technology field in Bermuda and the opportunities that it has to offer them.

About the Opportunities

Information Technology is becoming another international industry in Bermuda. It also supports and enables virtually every business which is carried on here.

It is, of course, necessary that this new industry be developed for the most part using foreign capital and foreign technical resources. But it is not necessary, and it is not appropriate, that it be developed or operated in the future using largely foreign personnel. Bermuda is now challenged to encourage and enable its young people, and their parents and teachers, to recognise the great opportunities in information technology which are opening before their eyes, and to help the young people plan to pursue those opportunities. This must become their industry, and for that to happen they must make it their industry.

The growing information technology industry in Bermuda, and all the businesses it supports and enables, requires outstanding young men and women. With sound training at advanced levels, and after gaining appropriate practical experience in working environments, these young men and women will be able to assume and discharge professional and managerial responsibilities of increasing weight and complexity; in addition to the skilled Bermudian tradespersons and technicians who will work under their direction.

Outreach Committee

One of the most active teams of the ESST family is the Outreach Committee which is charged with speaking to all senior school students in Bermuda about the benefits of a career in or related to Information Technology / Computer Science. ESST is not only dedicated to granting an annual scholarship to the most promising IT student in Bermuda, but also dedicated to ensuring that all students in Bermuda are made aware of the benefits of studying IT.

Your 2004 / 2005 Outreach Committee is:

  • Michael W. Branco - Chairman
  • Dick Butterfield - Past Chairman
  • Lynne Winfield
  • Ty Sampson
  • Penny Sampson
  • Del-Keesha Hanley
  • Karen Clemons
  • Alexander DeCampos-Guerra
  • Weldon Wade
